Hi Tim Carter,
I am interested that you have a GG-Grandfather Henry Kirby born 2 May 1807 in
N.C. I have a GG-Grandfather Henry Franklin Kirby born 1812 in Green Co., TN
and died January 6, 1867 in Cane Hill, Arkansas. His son was Thomas Henry
Kirby who was born in Washington Co., AR and died in 1913 and is buried there
with his wife Rebecca Virginia Ashley. My Grandfather was the Rev. William
Franklin Kerby, who was born1870 in Jackson Co., MO. and married Lula Lee
Cole in 1894. Both are now resting in graves in Arlington, Texas, where I was
born. According to a distant cousin, Clarence Thomas Chambers, our branch of
the Kirby/Kerby/Kearby family is supposedly descended from the John
Kearby/Joannah Owens family. I have a lot of information about my
Grandparents and their descendents. Maybe we have a connection. Good luck on
your search.

Hello Larry,
Your post interested me. Very seldom do I see the name KEARBY. Please
see the data below on my KIRBYs, taken from hand notes by my G-Uncle
Albert. My GG-Grandfather Henry KIRBY,(may have been William Henry
KIRBY) supposedly was born 2 May 1807 in NC. Uncle Albert indicated that
Henry spelled his last name KEARBY.
As per other writings of T.A.A. Carter, Henry was married [1] to
Elizabeth L. (?) on 8 Nov 1832, and [3] to Mary E. (?) on 9 Aug 1870.
--------------------------------------
The following was transcribed from notes written by Judge T.A.A.Carter
(Thomas Albert Almarine Carter). The spelling is as on the original
notes:
Kirby family. Henry Kearby (as he spelled his name) (Children all
spelled it Kirby) was born May 20 1807. Married 3 times. To July Ann ?
did not know maiden name June 17 1841. Died Aug 28 1888. He was of
German decent, was buried at Chidester Ouachita Co Ark by his 2nd wife,
my Gr mom.
------------------
Larry, you show that you are in Camden, SC. Were your ancestors
KEARBY's, and were any of them from there?
This family settled near Chidester, AR, near to Camden, AR. Just
wondering if this might be some indication?
Any help in finding parents and/or siblings of Henry KEARBY/KIRBY would
be greatly appreciated. Also, looking for "live KIRBY cousins".
Thank you,
Tim Carter

Eldon Kirby was born in the early years of this century. He
was a Free
Mason, a former lawman and a wonderful person, and a father figure to me.
He said his family came from Jesse Kirby and gave me a copy of another
Jesse Kirby's certificate from the Civil War. His family were Cherokee and
lived in Arkansas where they had a hotel around the hot springs. The
picture he gave me of his family shows a prosperous Indian family who are
probably c. 1880's, with the usual number of children for a Kirby family.
Eldon was about 6' 4" and very slender, had most of his hair. His son was
the only child, and evidently lived in Central Arizona as Eldon did. After
1990 when I moved to New Mexico, he no longer answered my letters, but I
would like to find some of the related Arkansas Kirbys to give copies of
what he entrusted to me.

You were right - she wasn't hatched!!! I believe the area for you to look
for Pogue/Kirby information would be Greene Co., TN, in the Greeneville
area. The family resided there for quite a while, and Chrisopher KIRBY
owned land and served for a while as a justice of the peace, to my
understanding.
You will find them in conjunction with the BROTHERTON's and BABBs. These
families lived around each other, signed as witnesses for each other on
various documents, etc.

It looks like we have a direct tie to your Christopher Kirby. The following excerpt is
from my family tree notes:
.
>From "Flashback", July 1965:
"KIRBY, Christopher. A Revolutionary soldier was born in Halifax Co., Virginia
on Sept. 10, 1760, enlisted in 1779 and was in the battle of
Kings Mountain, discharged Nov. 15, 1780. He lived in North Carolina until 1797, moved to
Green Co., Tenn. in 1829 and on to Washington Co.,
Ark. in 1829."
>From "Flashback", Aug., 1992:
"Christopher KIRBY (KERBY): born September 10, 1760 in Halifax County, Virginia. Died
in 1837 at Cane Hill, AR and is buried in Russell
Cemetery at Clyde in Washington County, AR. Married ? and had children.. Applied for
Pension on December 10, 1832 in Washington County,
Territory of Arkansas. Application from Washington County, Arkansas records. Applied a
second time for Pension on December 14, 1835 in
Washington County, Territory of Arkansas. Pension number S 32356 from National Archives.
My Grandfather was William Franklin Kerby, who was the son of Thomas Henry Kirby and
Rebecca Virginia Ashley. I have a lot of information
about this branch of the Kerby family.
Some time ago, Danny A. McBee, who has researched this family for over 35 years,
posted a listing of his Kirby Family going back to George
Kerby, who was born about 1530 in Norfolk, England. He has a lot of information.
Robert S. Duggan, Jr. has a fantastic listing of the descendants of Richard KIRBY
posted on the Internet, but I have been unable to make a
connection with any of those Kirbys listed.
It is always nice to find another Kerby/Kirby cousin. Let me know of any information that
you would like to have from me.
Best Regards,
Cousin Bill Pattillos....bpattil@ns.net
